Operation Kaalnemi: 82 Fake Babas Arrested in Dehradun in Just Three Days

Under the ongoing Operation Kaalnemi campaign launched by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Dehradun Police has intensified its crackdown on impostors misusing religious identities. In just three days, 82 fake babas have been arrested across the district, including 32 arrested in the latest phase.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh stated that the campaign specifically targets those misusing the religious sanctity of Uttarakhand — often referred to as Devbhoomi — to exploit people’s faith. These fraudsters, often dressed as sadhus and babas, deceive especially women and young people by claiming to solve personal or domestic problems through spiritual means.

On Sunday alone, 34 more impostors were arrested from various police station areas while roaming in the guise of holy men. Out of the 82 arrested so far, 23 individuals are from other states. All have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The SSP further instructed all police station in-charges to stay alert and act against such individuals found misleading the public under the pretense of religious or spiritual solutions. The campaign aims to preserve the sanctity of religious traditions and protect citizens from being manipulated or defrauded in the name of faith.
