Dehradun – The Uttarakhand government has clarified that not all medalists from the National Games will be eligible for out-of-turn jobs. This privilege will be granted only to athletes who are native or permanent residents of Uttarakhand. However, all medal winners will receive the previously announced cash rewards.
In the 38th National Games, Uttarakhand secured its best-ever performance, winning 103 medals, including 24 gold, and finishing in seventh place. A total of 196 athletes won medals for the state, some of whom originally belong to other states but competed under Uttarakhand’s banner.
Initially, the government had promised both out-of-turn jobs and doubled cash prizes for all medalists. However, after reviewing official policies, it has been decided that only native residents will be eligible for government job appointments under this scheme.
The Sports Department has requested a budget of ₹16 crore for cash prizes and proposed the creation of 300 additional posts in the police, sports, and youth welfare departments. While out-of-turn job provisions exist in seven departments, the current proposal seeks new positions in only three. Further discussions are underway, and the final decision rests with the state government.
