Over 3,000 Objections on Panchayat Reservation in Uttarakhand

With three-tier panchayat elections scheduled in 12 districts of Uttarakhand (excluding Haridwar), the provisional reservation proposals have triggered over 3,000 objections across the state. District Magistrates will begin addressing these objections today and tomorrow. The final reservation list will be published on June 18.

Many objectors claim their gram panchayat was reserved for women in the previous election cycle and has been reserved for women again this year. Others have demanded changes in category-wise reservations—some want gram, block, or district panchayat seats moved from SC/ST quotas to general category, while others are calling for seats to be reserved for SC, ST, or OBC categories.

Officials state that all reservations have been made strictly in accordance with existing government orders.
