Para-athlete’s Request Revives Mayakund Community Centre; ₹43 Lakh Sanctioned, Work Begins Immediately

Mayakund Community Centre

Rishikeshc: The long-neglected community centre in Mayakund, Rishikesh is finally set for revival after District Magistrate Savin Bansal took swift action following a formal request by para-athlete Neerja Goyal. Representing the Devbhoomi Charitable Trust, Goyal had approached the DM to highlight the building’s deteriorated condition and its active use for evening remedial teaching and women’s skill training programs.

The community centre, owned by the Rishikesh Municipal Corporation, serves residents of nearby areas including Mayakund, Chandreshwar Nagar, and Bhairav Mandir. It has long been used for various public welfare activities such as children’s education, women’s literacy, and vocational training for women. However, its severely damaged condition had started hampering these services.

Taking immediate cognizance of the issue, DM Bansal directed the municipal team to inspect the site and prepare an estimate. A detailed project report was subsequently prepared, and within a remarkably short time, a ₹43 lakh budget was sanctioned for its repair and reconstruction. The tender was floated the very next day, and physical work on the site has already begun.
