Pauri district has emerged as the top performer in Uttarakhand in helping youth start self-employment through government schemes. Under the Chief Minister Self-Employment Scheme (MSY), Pauri has outperformed even major plain districts like Dehradun and Haridwar. In the state ranking, Tehri secured the second position, while Champawat stood third.

According to official data, Pauri district has achieved 67.45 percent of its target under the MSY scheme in the current financial year. The district was given a target of 725 beneficiaries, out of which banks approved loans for 486 applicants. Notably, banks approved 154 more applications than the initial target, showing strong participation and demand.

The lead bank report shows that a total loan amount of Rs 28.78 crore has been distributed to 486 beneficiaries in Pauri to support self-employment activities. Out of 862 applications received by 21 banks in the district, loans were sanctioned for 464 applicants under the scheme.

Under the MSY scheme, youth can get loans of up to Rs 25 lakh to start self-employment ventures such as beauty salons, gyms and fitness centres, mobile repair units, and other small businesses. While the scheme has boosted opportunities, many applicants were still left out, indicating the need for wider coverage and faster approvals.
