A national-level workshop on Pediatric Anesthesia was recently organized at AIIMS Rishikesh, drawing participation from experts across various medical institutes in India. The workshop focused on the use and management of anesthesia in pediatric care, with in-depth discussions on its effects and practical applications during surgeries involving children.
The event was held under the aegis of the Department of Anesthesiology as part of a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program. Expert speakers covered essential topics such as airway management in children, ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia, and peri-operative crisis management. The workshop, themed “Harmonizing Care, Crisis, and Compassion,” provided hands-on training in various critical anesthesia skills, emphasizing the management of pediatric anesthesia to mitigate risks during surgeries.
Prof. Meenu Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Rishikesh, highlighted the significance of the workshop in enhancing the perioperative care of pediatric patients, which she said would have long-term benefits. Prof. Jaya Chaturvedi, Dean of Academics, stressed the importance of such continuous educational activities, particularly when it comes to the care and management of young children. She noted the relevance of these sessions in ensuring better outcomes in pediatric healthcare.
A wide array of experts, including Prof. Mukul Jain, Prof. Parul Jindal, Prof. Divya Gupta, Dr. Aarti Rajput, Dr. (Col.) Amit Rai, Dr. Ankita Kabi, Dr. Prem Raj Singh, Dr. Raksha Kundal, Dr. Nidhi Kumar, Dr. Poonam Arora, and Dr. Poonam Sherwani, delivered talks on various pediatric anesthesia-related topics. Additionally, the Medical Humanities Department, under the guidance of Prof. Geeta Negi and Dr. Vandana Dhingra, organized a workshop in collaboration with Dr. Ashish Bhute and Dr. Rakesh Sharma.
The organizing committee, chaired by Prof. Sanjay Agarwal, with Prof. Yashwant Singh Payal as the Organizing Secretary and Dr. Praveen Talwar and Dr. Mridul Dhar as Co-Organizing Secretaries, managed the event. Other prominent participants included Prof. Ajit Kumar, Dr. Ankit Agarwal, Dr. Gaurav Jain, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Dr. Priyanka Gupta, Dr. Deepak Singla, Dr. Bhavna Gupta, Dr. Ruma Thakuria, and Dr. Nikita Chaudhary.
The workshop, attended by both faculty and students, served as a valuable platform for sharing knowledge and improving the overall management of pediatric anesthesia, contributing to the safety and care of young patients during surgeries.
