Public Consensus and Transparency Needed Before Implementation - Mohit Dimri

Dehradun: Mohit Dimri, coordinator of the Mool Niwas-Bhu Kanoon Samanway Sangharsh Samiti, emphasized that permanent residency and land laws should reflect public sentiment. Before passing laws in the Assembly, the government should discuss the draft with all-party representatives and struggle committee officials. Only after achieving a consensus should the Assembly enact these laws.

In a press conference at the Dehradun Press Club, Dimri stated that the report from the committee formed under Subhash Kumar in 2022 regarding land laws should be made public. Additionally, a detailed account of lands granted under the pretext of industrial development should also be disclosed. He noted that land is often repurposed for property dealings rather than its intended use. Numerous cases of land being exploited under the guise of investment conferences are surfacing, which he described as looting. He asserted that the biggest scam in Uttarakhand involves land. There must be thorough investigations into chief ministers, former chief ministers, ministers, legislators, bureaucrats, and their associates involved in land exploitation and weakening land laws.

According to Dimri, only individuals who have resided in Uttarakhand for 30 years should be entitled to receive up to 200 square meters of land for building homes. He stressed that slum areas should not receive ownership rights to the land. In any industrial venture, landowners should receive an equal share of the profits, and land should be leased for ten years only. He also called for a complete ban on purchasing agricultural land in the state and a halt to the expansion of urban bodies in urban areas.

Regarding the movement’s strategy, Dimri announced plans for a Self-Respect Rally in Kedarnath soon. Following that, similar rallies will be held in Haridwar, Pithoragarh, Ramnagar, Pauri, Vikasnagar, and other regions. This movement will continue unabated. Present at the conference were struggle committee co-coordinator Lushun Todaria, secretary Pranjal Naudiyal, patron Mohan Singh Rawat, core members Vipin Negi, Manish Goniya, and others.
