PM Modi to Chair Cabinet Meet Today; Focus on Caste Census

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a crucial Union Cabinet meeting today, marking the second such meeting in his third term and the first since the Pahalgam terror attack. The agenda includes reviewing the achievements of the government in the past year and strategizing the nationwide promotion of the anti-terror military campaign, ‘Operation Sindoor’.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM with PM Modi’s address, followed by presentations from key ministries. Cabinet Secretary Dr. T.V. Somanathan will provide a detailed briefing on major decisions and developmental initiatives undertaken during the third term of the Modi government. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will present a detailed update on Operation Sindoor.

In his address, the Prime Minister is expected to outline the government’s future roadmap, which includes India’s economic ambitions such as becoming the world’s third-largest economy and achieving developed nation status by 2047. He will reiterate the four-fold mantra of “Perform, Reform, Transform, Inform” as previously highlighted in the 28 August 2023 Council of Ministers’ meeting.

A key highlight of the meeting will be the central emphasis on caste census. The government is planning a nationwide outreach campaign by 25 June to promote its decision on caste-based population surveys. The campaign is being seen as part of a broader narrative to communicate 11 years of policy achievements under the Modi administration.

Simultaneously, the promotion of Operation Sindoor is being positioned to showcase India’s aggressive and strategic stance against terrorism on a global scale.
