Delhi High Court overturns CIC order on PM Modi’s degree disclosure

The Delhi High Court has set aside the Central Information Commission’s (CIC) directive that sought to make public details of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bachelor’s degree. Justice Sachin Datta delivered the verdict on a petition filed by Delhi University challenging the CIC order. The decision had been reserved on 27 February.

The matter originated after an RTI application by a person named Neeraj. On 21 December 2016, the CIC had permitted inspection of records of all students who cleared the 1978 Bachelor of Arts examination, the same year Narendra Modi completed his degree.
