Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña Palacios at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. Describing the visit as historic, PM Modi welcomed the President and his strong delegation, noting that this marks only the second visit by a Paraguayan head of state to India. He added that the President’s itinerary, which includes both Delhi and Mumbai, reflects the depth of engagement between the two nations.
PM Modi emphasized the vast potential for cooperation in areas such as economic development, digital technology, critical minerals, energy, agriculture, health, defence, railways, and space. He highlighted that India and Paraguay are united in the global fight against terrorism and share common concerns such as cybercrime, organized crime, and drug trafficking, where mutual collaboration can be greatly strengthened.
The Prime Minister further stated that both India and Paraguay are integral parts of the Global South, sharing similar hopes, aspirations, and challenges. He stressed the importance of learning from each other’s experiences to address global issues effectively. PM Modi also expressed satisfaction that India was able to provide COVID-19 vaccines to the people of Paraguay during the pandemic, showcasing the strength of bilateral ties.
