PM Modi to Inaugurate Z-Morh Tunnel: Srinagar-Leh Travel Made Easier

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Z-Morh Tunnel in Ganderbal district, Jammu and Kashmir, today. The tunnel, part of the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, connects Sonamarg to Gagangir and is expected to enhance connectivity and promote regional development.

Key Features of Z-Morh Tunnel

  • Length: 6.5 kilometers
  • Cost: ₹2,400 crore
  • Capacity: Handles 11,000 vehicles per hour
  • Altitude: 2,637 meters above sea level
  • Technology Used: Constructed using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), making it operational even during harsh winters.

Benefits for the Region

The tunnel will facilitate year-round travel on the Srinagar-Leh route, transforming Sonamarg into a hub for tourism and winter sports. This project aims to boost regional development and position Kashmir as a prominent destination on the global tourism map.
