Police on alert ahead of VVIP visit, 650 people verified in special campaign

Dehradun, 5 Nov: Police conducted a surprise verification drive here on Wednesday. During the operation, separate teams from the Police and the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) verified around 650 outsiders, tenants, street vendors, and suspicious individuals residing in areas such as FRI, IMA, Jolly Grant, THDC Colony, Phulsaeni, Jamunwala, and nearby localities under the jurisdiction of Premnagar Police Station.

Police officials said that strict action was taken against people who failed to follow verification rules. Thirteen house owners who did not verify their tenants were fined a total of Rs 1,30,000 under Section 83 of the Police Act. In addition, eight other persons were fined Rs 2,000 under Section 81 of the Police Act for violating police regulations.

The police have said that such checking drives will continue in the coming days to maintain law and order during the VVIP visit and to ensure that no suspicious activities take place in the city.
