Dehradun – President Droupadi Murmu addressed the special session of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly on the occasion of the state’s silver jubilee, praising its 25-year journey of growth in education, healthcare, tourism, and infrastructure.
She lauded the state’s progress in women’s empowerment, citing icons like Bachendri Pal and Vandana Katariya, and congratulated Ritu Khanduri Bhushan as the first woman Speaker. The President commended the Assembly for passing over 550 bills, including the Lokayukta and Anti-Cheating Acts, and appreciated the state for enacting the Uniform Civil Code, fulfilling the vision of Article 44.
Murmu emphasized that public accountability is both the strength and challenge of parliamentary democracy and urged legislators to prioritize public welfare beyond politics. She also praised the adoption of the National e-Vidhan Application, making the Assembly paperless.
Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd) and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the state’s development and expressed gratitude for the President’s guidance. Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan called the address a historic moment, while Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya praised Uttarakhand’s unique role as a Himalayan frontier state.
