Protest Erupts at Gurukul Kangri University Over New VC Appointment

Tension gripped Gurukul Kangri University in Haridwar as employees staged a protest against the appointment of Prabhat Sengar as the new Vice-Chancellor. The situation escalated when two factions confronted each other, prompting deployment of heavy police force on campus.

Protesting employees locked the Vice-Chancellor’s office, refusing to let the new appointee take charge. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Jitendra Kumar intervened and forcibly opened the lock to facilitate Sengar’s official takeover.

Despite the move, employees continued their sit-in protest outside the VC office, chanting slogans against the administration. The university gates were sealed to prevent further entry, and only a limited number of officials were allowed inside for the handover process in the SDM’s presence.

The protest highlights deep internal rifts within the university over the appointment, with employees demanding reconsideration of the decision.
