Punjab Bandh on December 30, Farmers MahaPanchayat on Jan 4

Under the ongoing farmers’ protest at Shambhu and Khanauri borders, farmers have declared a Punjab Bandh on December 30, exempting emergency services. Citizens of Punjab have been urged to support this shutdown. Following this, a massive farmers’ Maha Panchayat will be held at the Khanauri border on January 4, where prominent farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal will address the gathering.

Dallewal’s hunger strike entered its 33rd day on Saturday, with his health condition deteriorating severely. Doctors have advised hospitalization due to rising ketone levels, but Dallewal has chosen to continue his fast voluntarily. He expressed disappointment over the Supreme Court’s recent order allowing stricter action against farmers and criticized it as aligning with the central government’s intentions.

Farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and other states are expected to participate in the January 4 Maha Panchayat. Despite his fragile health, Dallewal will address the gathering. Farmer leaders Abhimanyu Kohar and Kaka Singh Kotda stated that the Maha Panchayat is being organized as per Dallewal’s wish.

In light of the Punjab Bandh, Punjab University has postponed its December 30 examinations to December 31.
