Security forces in Manipur have arrested a suspected militant of the banned Kanglipak Communist Party (PWG) and seized a large stockpile of weapons and explosives during separate raids across Imphal West, Imphal East, and Kakching districts.
The arrested individual has been identified as Yanglem Sadanand Singh, 26. He was reportedly involved in extortion activities, and officials recovered 19 demand letters used for forced collection during his arrest in Imphal West.
Following the arrest, security teams launched a major search operation in the Mayophung-Sansabi hill area of Imphal East. During the raid, forces recovered a .303 bipod-mounted rifle, seven live .303 cartridges, two heavy-caliber mortars, 20 mortar shells, two IEDs, four radio sets with chargers, one pistol with three rounds, 12 hand grenades, and a bulletproof vest.
Another search in Chingkhei Ching Faknang village led to the seizure of one INSAS light machine gun, an INSAS rifle, two self-loading rifles, a sniper rifle, a .32 pistol, six live 5.56 mm rounds, 21 empty 5.56 mm shells, and four 9 mm empty shells.
Meanwhile, in Kakching’s Nongmaikhong Makha Leikai hill area, security forces discovered an SMG carbine with two magazines, an AK-47 rifle, two single-barrel guns, a modified 9 mm pistol with two magazines, three IEDs weighing about 2 kg, eight wire detonators, and ten packets of PEK explosives weighing 125 grams each.
Authorities believe the weapons were stockpiled for potential militant operations. All recovered items have been secured, and investigations are ongoing.
