Heavy Rain in Dehradun and Snowfall in High Altitude Areas

The weather in Uttarakhand has taken a sudden turn, causing a sharp drop in temperature. Continuous rain in Dehradun since Saturday morning has brought chilly conditions, forcing people indoors. Meanwhile, heavy snowfall in high-altitude regions has exacerbated the cold.

Heavy Snowfall in Chamoli and Badrinath

Chamoli district has been experiencing rain and snowfall in higher altitudes since late Friday night. Badrinath Dham has recorded nearly three feet of snow, while Hemkund Sahib has seen up to four feet. Other areas, including Auli, Valley of Flowers, Rudranath, and Gorson, are also witnessing significant snowfall. Snow cutters are being used to clear roads in Auli.

Disruption to Traffic and Construction Activities

Heavy snowfall has disrupted key highways such as Badrinath Highway, Malari Highway, and Chamoli-Mandal-Ukhimath-Kund Highway. Construction under Badrinath Dham’s Master Plan has come to a standstill. Around 150 workers and eight engineers of NHIDCL are being relocated to safer areas.

Tourists Flock to Enjoy Snowfall

Despite the biting cold, tourists are flocking to higher altitudes to enjoy the snowfall. However, continuous rain and snow have thrown local life into disarray, with residents resorting to warm clothing and bonfires to combat the cold.
