Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have finally won their first IPL title, defeating Punjab Kings by six runs in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this victory, RCB end an 18-year-long wait and become the eighth team to lift the prestigious trophy.
RCB, led by their star players, overcame the pressure of a high-stakes final after being put in to bat first. They posted 190 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. In response, Punjab Kings fought hard but were restricted to 184 for seven. Krunal Pandya’s lethal bowling in the middle overs proved crucial in turning the game in RCB’s favour.
The title also marks a milestone moment for Virat Kohli, who, after 18 IPL seasons, finally has a championship to his name. Prior to RCB’s win, only seven franchises had secured the IPL title—Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
