Cabinet Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Development, Rekha Arya, inaugurated newly constructed halls at Balika Niketan and Nari Niketan in Kedarpuram, Dehradun. The hall at Balika Niketan was built at a cost of ₹65.52 lakh, while the hall at Nari Niketan was constructed for ₹57.09 lakh.
During the event, Minister Arya praised the girls of Balika Niketan for emerging as strong examples of women empowerment through their talent and achievements. She noted that several girls from the shelter have excelled in academics and are now preparing for competitive exams like PCS or serving in government positions.
At present, Nari Niketan houses 164 women, including orphans, abandoned, and destitute individuals. The Minister emphasized the state government’s commitment to supporting such institutions and promoting the self-reliance of residents.
She also interacted with beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Vatsalya Yojana and the Sponsorship Scheme, reviewing their progress and encouraging them to continue striving for self-sufficiency.
Present at the event were Chief Probation Officer Mohit Chaudhary, Project Manager Rakesh Tiwari, Assistant Engineer Pramod Kothiyal, Deputy Chief Probation Officer Anjana Gupta, Rajeev Nayan, and District Probation Officer Meena Bisht, along with other officials.
