Republic Day 2026: Governor takes salute at Dehradun Parade Ground, tableaux displayed

The main state-level Republic Day function was held at Parade Ground in Dehradun on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, where Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) hoisted the national flag and took the salute during the ceremonial parade. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was also present at the event.

Extending Republic Day greetings to the people of the state, the Governor paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Dr BR Ambedkar and the architects of the Constitution. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is setting new benchmarks of development in sectors such as digital economy, startups, defence production, space technology, green energy and military strength. He added that Uttarakhand is actively contributing to the nation’s progress, with significant work done in infrastructure, road, rail and air connectivity, digital services and investment.

The Governor said that yoga and Ayurveda are the soul of Uttarakhand and the state is being developed as a global yoga and wellness hub. He stated that women in Uttarakhand are excelling in education, defence, sports and entrepreneurship, and the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code has provided legal security and equality to women. He also highlighted the increasing use of technology in governance, disaster management, health services and education.

Several tableaux showcasing the achievements, culture and development initiatives of various departments were presented during the parade, drawing appreciation from the audience.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also extended Republic Day greetings and paid homage to freedom fighters, Constitution makers and statehood activists. He described Republic Day as a festival celebrating the making of the Constitution and said it inspires citizens to remain committed to democratic values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.

The Chief Minister said the state government is fully committed to realising the Prime Minister’s vision of making India a developed nation by 2047 and transforming Uttarakhand into the country’s best state. He highlighted initiatives such as the Uniform Civil Code, improved management of pilgrimages, development of tourism infrastructure, promotion of winter pilgrimage and industrial-friendly policies. He added that Uttarakhand has secured the first position among small states in NITI Aayog’s Export Preparedness Index.
