A retired principal of a government inter-college, Shyam Lal Guruji, was kidnapped and murdered. He had been missing since February 2. The murder is allegedly committed by a woman known to him, Geeta, and her MBBS student husband, Himanshu Chaudhary. Geeta’s brother Ajay Kumar and brother-in-law Dhanraj Chawla helped dispose of the body in the Sakhan Canal near Deoband. Police have arrested both accomplices, while Geeta and Himanshu remain absconding.
According to SSP Ajay Singh, Shyam Lal’s daughter, Nidhi Rathore, filed a missing complaint on February 7. Investigations revealed that Shyam Lal had multiple calls with Geeta on February 2 and was last seen heading towards her house from Kishannagar Chowk, as confirmed by call records and CCTV footage. However, he never returned, and both Geeta and Himanshu had disappeared from their residence.
During interrogation, Ajay confessed that Geeta had informed him on February 2 about killing someone with her husband and needed help disposing of the body. On February 4, Ajay and Dhanraj packed the body in a plastic sack, placed it in a car’s trunk, and dumped it into the canal. Police have taken both into custody, while the search for Geeta and Himanshu continues.

The accused had abandoned Shyam Lal’s motorcycle in an empty plot near ISBT, breaking its number plate and throwing it into nearby bushes to mislead the police into believing he had left by bus. The police have recovered the motorcycle and the number plate and are interrogating the arrested suspects under a three-day custody remand.
