Rishikesh – In light of the rising incidents of tourists being swept away or drowning in the Ganga, police in the Laxman Jhula area have restricted access to several sensitive riverbanks. The move aims to ensure the safety of visitors flocking to Rishikesh, a popular spiritual and adventure tourism destination.

On Sunday, under the leadership of Laxman Jhula SHO Santosh Painthwal, police teams put up “Entry Prohibited” notices at multiple high-risk Ganga banks within the police station’s jurisdiction. Officers also used loudspeakers to alert pilgrims and tourists bathing in the river about potential dangers and urged them to exercise caution.

To enhance monitoring, SHO Painthwal has formed several special patrol teams for the Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula regions. These teams are tasked with conducting daily inspections, warning visitors, and preventing movement at vulnerable ghat areas.
