A tragic accident occurred in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district when a truck carrying 19 Kanwar Yatris overturned on the Rishikesh-Gangotri Highway between Jajal and Fakot. The mishap claimed the lives of three pilgrims and left sixteen others injured. The truck was en route from Rishikesh to Gangotri when the incident happened.
According to District Disaster Management Officer Brijesh Bhatt, one person died on the spot, while two others were found trapped under the overturned truck. Four critically injured passengers were referred to AIIMS Rishikesh for advanced medical care. Eight injured are being treated at the Narendra Nagar Community Health Centre and one at the Primary Health Centre in Fakot.
Upon receiving the accident report, rescue and relief operations were launched immediately. As per the Tehri District Magistrate, the truck lost control and overturned approximately two kilometres ahead of Khadi. Injured passengers were quickly evacuated with the help of the 108 Ambulance Service.
CM Dhami Orders Relief Operations on War Footing
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the accident and instructed officials to provide the best possible medical assistance to the injured. He also directed that relief and rescue operations be carried out on a war footing to ensure all victims receive timely support.
