Rishikesh : The Devbhoomi Nashamukt Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti organized a protest rally demanding a drug-free Uttarakhand and the closure of the liquor shop located at Kharasrot. The demonstration turned tense as police and protesters clashed during the march.
Heavy police deployment was seen at the protest site to stop the rally. However, after a heated scuffle and slogans against the Chief Minister and local MLA, protesters broke through the police barricades and proceeded with the rally. The march started from Kharasrot, passed through the Lonivi Tirahe and Muni Ki Reti Municipality area, and continued through internal routes of Chaudah Bigha before concluding at Ramleela Maidan.
Municipal Chairperson Neelam Bijlwan addressed the gathering, stating that the movement represents the struggle for the youth’s future and emphasized that there is no place for alcohol or drugs in Devbhoomi. Former Narendra Nagar MLA Om Gopal Rawat, Dinesh Chandra Master, and Sardar Singh Pundir also urged the state government to immediately shut down the liquor outlet and take strict measures toward a drug-free Uttarakhand.
