In a tragic incident in Rishikesh, two youths from Haryana and Madhya Pradesh drowned while bathing in the Ganga river under the jurisdiction of Laxman Jhula police station. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a rescue operation following the incident. The body of the Haryana youth has been recovered, while the search for the Madhya Pradesh youth is still underway.
On Tuesday afternoon, 18-year-old Tikaram, a resident of Basidi village, Sonipat (Haryana), was bathing at Mastram Ghat with four of his friends when he was swept away by the river’s strong current. His friends immediately raised an alarm and informed the local police. SDRF’s Dhalwala team was deployed and recovered his body after an extensive search. The body was handed over to Laxman Jhula police, and further legal procedures have been initiated.
Station in-charge Santosh Paithwal confirmed the details and added that Tikaram had come to Rishikesh for a trip with friends. His family has been informed of the tragedy. Meanwhile, the SDRF also recovered the body of a woman from Assam who drowned on March 7, found near Phoolchatti.
The rescue team continues to search for the missing youth from Madhya Pradesh.
