Rishikesh – Tension gripped Rishikesh’s Khara Srot area late Friday night after a 28-year-old man, identified as Ajendra Kandari, was brutally stabbed to death near a liquor shop. The incident occurred following a heated argument between Ajendra and his neighbour, Akshay Thakur (25), who allegedly attacked him with a knife, inflicting 10 to 15 wounds.
According to police, the altercation took place around 10:30 PM near the English liquor shop under Muni Ki Reti police station limits. Locals rushed Ajendra to AIIMS Rishikesh, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His body was later handed over to his family after postmortem formalities.
Enraged by the incident, the victim’s relatives and residents staged a protest by placing the body on the Badrinath Highway, blocking traffic for several hours and demanding strict action against the accused. Police pacified the protesters and assured them of a fair investigation.
Station House Officer Pradeep Chauhan confirmed that the accused Akshay Thakur has been arrested and sent to jail following his court appearance. Preliminary investigation suggests that a dispute over money collection led to the attack.
Ajendra Kandari was known to supply meat to local hotels, dhabas, and food stalls in Tapovan and Muni Ki Reti areas. He had reportedly gone to collect payments from vendors near the liquor shop when the fatal altercation occurred.
