The increasing movement of wildlife around Jolly Grant Airport has raised concerns about flight safety. During a recent Airport Advisory Committee meeting, Regional MP Trivendra Singh Rawat and Tehri MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah directed airport authorities and the Forest Department to implement necessary safety measures.
Wildlife Movement Poses Threat to Flights
According to the airport director, wildlife sightings near the runway occur two to three times a month, posing a significant risk to aircraft. Incidents of bird hits have also been reported, prompting the MPs to instruct forest officials to increase patrolling around the airport premises.
Discussion on International Flights
The meeting also addressed plans to develop Dehradun Airport as an international hub. Airport officials confirmed that international flights could commence with existing resources. The Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) announced that a tender for a Kathmandu flight has been completed and services will start once the airport gains international status.
