Rishikesh – AIIMS Rishikesh successfully conducted a “Robotic Knee Surgery Week,” during which 16 knee replacement surgeries were performed using cutting-edge robotic technology. The event was organized under the Department of Orthopaedics, with surgeries led by the medical team under the guidance of department head Prof. Pankaj Kandwal and Arthroplasty Unit chief Prof. Roop Bhushan Kalia.
Experts highlighted that robotic-assisted knee replacement offers higher precision, better alignment, improved ligament balancing, and faster recovery compared to conventional methods. The use of 3D imaging and computer assistance allows for greater surgical control and long-term benefits for patients.
AIIMS Executive Director Prof. (Dr.) Meenu Singh called the event historic and praised the orthopaedics team for their efforts. She emphasized that bringing such advanced technology to the public marks a significant step in improving healthcare delivery. She further stated that AIIMS Rishikesh is committed to adopting the latest medical innovations to enhance patient care and treatment outcomes.
Prof. Kandwal shared that 10 patients from various parts of Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh benefitted from the robotic surgeries, which were provided at no additional cost. The procedures aimed to offer higher-quality outcomes with long-term success.
Prof. Kalia also delivered a detailed lecture on the working of robotic knee replacement technology and its advantages over traditional surgery. He explained how the technology enhances surgical accuracy and improves overall patient outcomes.
