Rudraprayag: Leopard Caught in Cage at Deval, Villagers Breathe a Sigh of Relief

Rudraprayag: A leopard trapped in a cage set up in Deval village of Jakhwali block has finally been captured, bringing relief to the local residents. This leopard is suspected to be the same one responsible for the recent death of an elderly woman. However, wildlife experts will confirm after examination whether it is man-eating.

Fear Increased After Woman’s Death
On the evening of February 25, 65-year-old Satyeshwari Devi was attacked by the leopard while cutting grass in the field, resulting in her death. Prior to this, several leopard attack incidents had been reported in the area, injuring five women. The rising attacks had created an atmosphere of fear among the villagers.

A 32-member team from Rudraprayag Forest Division conducted an extensive operation to capture the leopard. The team deployed 25 trap cameras, drones, and four cages in the area. After tireless efforts, the leopard was finally caught in the cage. The Forest Department has appealed to locals to remain cautious and take necessary safety measures.

Wildlife experts will inspect the leopard to confirm if it is the same animal involved in the recent attacks. Depending on the report, the leopard will either be released back into the forest or relocated to another safe place.
