Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government is set to amend the rules for the promotion of Anganwadi workers, paving the way for them to occupy 50% of supervisor posts. Women Empowerment and Child Development Minister Rekha Arya said that a proposal for the amendment will be placed before the state cabinet. Over 20,000 Anganwadi workers are serving across the state.
Currently, the promotion quota for Anganwadi workers to supervisor posts stands at 40%, with 10% reserved for mini-Anganwadi workers, while the remaining 50% is filled through direct recruitment by the Subordinate Services Selection Commission. However, after the Centre approved the upgradation of all 5,120 mini-Anganwadi centres into full Anganwadi centres, the mini-Anganwadi posts ceased to exist.
According to Minister Arya, the revised supervisor rules will ensure regular yearly promotions for Anganwadi workers. She noted that earlier, promotions used to take place after 10 to 20 years, forcing many workers to retire without advancement. The amendment will now allow vacant posts to be filled annually through promotions.
