Dehradun – Under the guidance of Chief Minister Savin Bansal, the district administration has launched an upgraded phase of the Automated Parking Project in Dehradun. The initiative includes the launch of the ‘Sakhi Cab’ — a free electric shuttle service aimed at promoting women empowerment and easing city traffic congestion. Two new Tata Punch EVs have already been deployed, while six additional vehicles will soon join the fleet.

The free ‘Sakhi Cab’ service is being operated under the Dehradun District Rural Development Agency to help vehicle owners commute conveniently from automated parking lots to busy city areas such as Paltan Bazaar, Rajpur Road, and the Secretariat route. These cabs provide free pick-up and drop services from five designated points within a 5 km radius, including Ghantaghar, Subhash Road, Gandhi Park, and Parade Ground.

District Magistrate Savin Bansal has spearheaded the development of three modern automated parking facilities in the city — Parade Ground (111-vehicle capacity), Tibetan Market (132-vehicle capacity), and Coronation Hospital (18-vehicle capacity). Together, these parking complexes can accommodate 261 vehicles and will soon be inaugurated for public use by the Chief Minister.

The administration has also announced stricter enforcement against unauthorized street parking. A dedicated crane has been deployed to remove illegally parked vehicles, aiming to streamline traffic flow in the city center.

The Parade Ground automated parking facility is currently operated by Krishna Self-Help Group under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). The upcoming six EVs for the ‘Sakhi Cab’ fleet will be operated under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to expand accessibility and enhance commuter comfort.
