The sacred land of Uttarakhand echoed with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” as devotees thronged Shiva temples on the first Monday of Sawan, a day considered highly auspicious for worshipping Lord Shiva. Since early morning, long queues of devotees were seen at prominent Shiva shrines across the state for jalabhishek and rudrabhishek rituals.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami performed a special puja and prayed for the happiness, prosperity, and development of the people and the state. He described it as a divine privilege to perform vidhi-vat worship of Mahadev.
One of the key spiritual centers during Sawan is the Kamleshwar Mahadev Temple in Srinagar, Garhwal, regarded as one of the Panch Maheshwar Peeths and a prominent siddhpeeth. The temple has deep mythological significance and is a center of immense devotion during the holy month.
Special Mahaarati and Spiritual Significance
Throughout Sawan, the temple witnesses a surge in devotees performing rudrabhishek, panchamrit snan, gangajal and milk abhishek, and offering belpatra to Lord Shiva. According to Mahant 108 Ashutosh Puri, those who worship here with selfless devotion attain success in their endeavors by Mahadev’s grace.
Every Sawan Monday, the temple organizes a special Mahaarati, transforming the spiritual ambiance into a powerful source of inner purification, devotion, and a journey toward salvation.
Mythological and Historical Relevance
As per legends, this is the place where Lord Ram performed Rudrabhishek with 108 lotus flowers to atone for Brahmahatya dosh. The temple also finds a revered place in the tradition of Panch Kedar.
