Seven Hostels for Working Women and Students Approved in Uttarakhand

Dehradun – The Uttarakhand government has approved the construction of seven hostels for working women and students under the Nirbhaya Fund. Locations have been finalized, and the construction will be executed by BRIDCUL, with a completion timeline of three years.

The Women Empowerment and Child Development Department plans to build 12 hostels across the state. While seven locations have been finalized with budgets approved, efforts are ongoing to identify sites in the remaining five districts. These hostels will have a capacity of 50 to 150 rooms, providing a safe and comfortable living space for women and girls pursuing education or employment.

According to Prashant Arya, Director of Women and Child Welfare, the hostels will offer a secure environment, enabling women to focus on their careers and studies. State Nodal Officer Arti Baludi confirmed that 10% of the hostel seats will be reserved for differently-abled women, with the remaining rooms allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis based on need.

  • Rudraprayag: Bhatwadi Sain, Agastyamuni – ₹372.31 lakh

  • Pauri Garhwal: SIDCUL Area, Kotdwar – ₹360.05 lakh

  • Tehri Garhwal: SurSinghdhar, New Tehri – ₹357.03 lakh

  • Haridwar: Bhagwanpur, Nagar Panchayat – ₹279.05 lakh

  • Pithoragarh: Kumaud, Pithoragarh – ₹417.49 lakh

  • Champawat: Selakhala Gair, Champawat – ₹390.28 lakh

  • Uttarkashi: Gofiyara, Barahat – ₹378.19 lakh
