New Delhi: The new year has brought freezing cold to the national capital, with icy winds from the mountains intensifying the chill. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for severe cold wave conditions in the region. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 7.4°C, slightly above normal, but some areas experienced a dip to 6°C, leaving residents shivering.
Dense fog blanketed the city, reducing visibility to 100 meters at Palam Airport and 700 meters at Safdarjung, causing significant challenges for commuters.
IMD Forecast and Alerts
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for dense fog today, with predictions of moderate fog in the morning hours and the possibility of severe fog in some areas. The day is expected to see partly cloudy skies, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 17°C and 8°C, respectively.
Residents are advised to exercise caution while traveling and take necessary measures to protect themselves from the biting cold.
