Congress MP and senior leader Shashi Tharoor on Friday clarified that he prefers not to make public comments on political issues, especially those concerning internal party matters. Tharoor said he will only speak on such matters privately and at the appropriate time, if necessary.
The statement came in response to questions about a recent post on social media platform X, where Tharoor shared an image with the caption: “You don’t need permission to fly. The wings are yours and the sky belongs to no one.” The image also featured a small bird, which political analysts believe could symbolically reflect Tharoor’s stance on leadership autonomy and internal party dynamics.
Analysts suggest that the post subtly alludes to ongoing debates within the Congress party. However, rather than fueling public confrontation, Tharoor appears to be advocating for internal resolution and dialogue.
The backdrop to this development is Tharoor’s recent leadership of an all-party delegation abroad, during which he praised the central government’s efforts to expose Pakistan’s terror links under Operation Sindoor. His praise drew criticism from within the Congress party, with several leaders openly expressing discontent — triggering a wave of speculation about internal dissent.
Tharoor’s diplomatic handling of the matter indicates his continued preference for consensus-building over confrontation within the party ranks.
