Dehradun: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat said that a nation becomes secure and strong only when its social structure is sound and organised. Addressing the second day of the “Sangh Yatra–New Horizons, New Dimensions” public gathering in Dehradun, he underlined that reform becomes easier when society itself is well-structured.
He stated that society is the real source of strength for individuals and leadership. If society lacks unity and awareness, leadership alone cannot bring lasting change. According to him, national security turns robust only when society stands strong from within.
Citing historical context, Bhagwat said that the defeat in the 1857 uprising was largely due to the absence of political consciousness among the masses. He noted that British rule could only be challenged effectively after society became politically aware and organised.

He further mentioned that the formation of the Indian National Congress and the efforts of revolutionaries played a collective role in securing Independence. However, he remarked that after Independence, several political parties gradually drifted away from their foundational principles.
