Somvati Amavasya: Massive Crowds Gather at Haridwar’s Ganga Ghats

Haridwar: On the occasion of Somvati Amavasya, thousands of devotees thronged the Ganga Ghats in Haridwar for a holy dip. The pilgrimage area has been divided into 14 zones and 39 sectors to ensure efficient crowd management and security.

Enhanced Security and Management Measures

Haridwar Police has implemented extensive preparations for the fair. SP City Pankaj Gairola has been appointed as the nodal officer, with the force deployed across designated duty points. SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal conducted an inspection of Har Ki Pauri and other key areas, instructing officials to remain vigilant.

Strict Police Directives

During a briefing at Rishikul Auditorium on Sunday, SSP Dobal emphasized the critical role of police personnel at every point. He cautioned that even minor negligence could lead to significant issues. Zonal and sector officers were instructed to regularly check duty points and implement alternate routes to manage crowd surges effectively.

Special Arrangements

At the Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi temple areas, police personnel have been tasked with managing the queues of devotees in an orderly manner. Female police officers deployed at women-only ghats were instructed to stay alert. Officials were directed to promptly inform the control room in case of increased crowd pressure to maintain order.
