The “Sparsh Himalaya Festival 2024” opened in Thano, Dehradun, featuring the inauguration of India’s first “Writers’ Village.” Organized by Sparsh Himalaya Foundation, the festival was launched by Governor Gurmit Singh, former President Ram Nath Kovind, and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The village is designed as a creative retreat that includes a library, meditation center, art gallery, and a Ganga-Himalaya museum, all aimed at inspiring writers through a connection with nature. Participants from over 40 countries joined the event, which included discussions, readings, and workshops to celebrate literature and culture. The occasion also marked the release of Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank’s book Himalaya Mein Ram.

During his address, Governor Gurmit Singh emphasized the significance of the Writers’ Village in nurturing the literary talents of Uttarakhand’s youth. Former President Ram Nath Kovind praised the village as a unique concept that addresses the practical challenges faced by writers and poets. He noted that this initiative would serve as a beacon for aspiring authors seeking a supportive environment to develop their skills.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the festival as a golden opportunity for authors to share ideas with their counterparts from around the globe. He remarked that the serene and inspiring atmosphere of the Writers’ Village would foster creativity and encourage the exchange of diverse literary perspectives.
