Stamp Duty Reduced for RWAs, Land Registry Within Housing Societies to Get Easier

In a significant relief for over 500 registered Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in Uttarakhand, the state government has reduced stamp duty by ₹10,000 for the registration of internal roads, parks, and similar lands within housing societies. These areas, often left unregistered by builders after selling individual housing units, have been a persistent source of legal disputes between RWAs and developers.

The move was approved by the Dhami Cabinet on April 15 to ease such disputes. With this change, RWAs will now find it easier to get these internal lands registered in their names, paving the way for smoother management of society-owned spaces. The government believes this will not only simplify property administration within societies but also encourage legal clarity.

Finance Secretary Dilip Jawalkar stated that while this stamp duty relief is now in effect, the Housing Department has also been directed to draft new regulations to further minimize legal complications within residential societies. Drawing inspiration from Uttar Pradesh, which already has functioning RWA rules, Uttarakhand is also moving in the same direction.

These developments are expected to streamline property registration processes and reduce future conflicts between residents and builders across the state.
