Sunday’s wrestling competition during the State Olympic Games revealed severe mismanagement and negligence by the authorities towards the athletes. Without any prior notice, the wrestling venue was shifted from Police Line to the Sports Stadium, causing significant inconvenience to the athletes. This unexpected change not only affected their schedules but also disrupted their mental preparedness.
When the athletes arrived at the Police Line, they found an empty field. The athletes had to personally gather information about the new venue, highlighting the organizing committee’s carelessness and poor planning. For national and state-level events, providing basic and timely information to the participants should be a priority, but this was sorely lacking here.
The situation at the Sports Stadium was equally dire. Essential equipment and mats, crucial for wrestling, were missing. Athletes were forced to arrange and bring their own mats to set up the competition area. This incident not only disrespected the athletes’ hard work but also showcased the indifference of the authorities towards the athletes’ needs and respect.
This is not the first time that such mismanagement has been observed in the State Olympic Games. Previously, football and archery venues were changed without prior notice, and similar issues are now appearing with the fencing competition. These ongoing irregularities expose the weaknesses of the state’s sports management system, severely impacting the morale and dedication of the athletes.

Despite these hurdles, the athletes managed to start the competition through their own efforts. However, they leave behind a pressing question: will such neglect and mismanagement continue in the future? If the government and organizing committees remain this careless towards sports, what purpose do these national-level events truly serve?
