In a significant meeting chaired by District Magistrate Savin Bansal, the Public Works Department (PWD) addressed the issuance of road cutting permits for various routes in the Dehradun area. During the meeting, Reliance Jio was granted a 15-day permit for its work, while other agencies such as the Drinking Water Corporation, UUSD, GAIL, and UPCL received conditional permits for 21 days.
The District Magistrate emphasized the need for executing agencies to fulfill all stipulated conditions and provide proof of completion for prior works before being granted on-site permissions. He instructed the Executive Engineer of PWD to ensure that permits for construction activities are issued, keeping in mind the upcoming Diwali and State Foundation Day.
In cases of non-compliance with the stipulated conditions, the District Magistrate warned of legal action against the involved parties. He directed UUSD to allow further work only after the completion of ongoing projects in locations such as Doon University, Mothorovala, and Canal Road.
Furthermore, the District Magistrate issued a stern warning to officials of executing agencies regarding the seizure of equipment for unauthorized construction activities, alongside potential legal proceedings. During the meeting, UPCL officials presented their proposals, which drew strong disapproval from the District Magistrate, who insisted on timely applications for permits and warned against future negligence.
Permits for conditional works were granted to the Drinking Water Corporation in Mayur Vihar, Om City, Chaman Vihar, GMS Road, Saharanpur Road, and to UUSD in Raipur and Banjara Wala, while Reliance received approval for work at the sixth bridge and the Electricity Department for conditional works in Prem Nagar.
The District Magistrate reiterated that machinery and equipment would be confiscated if construction work continued beyond the specified time frame, and criminal charges would be filed against those responsible. For public convenience, construction activities must be conducted from 10 PM to 5 AM. Upon completion of projects, road restoration is mandatory. Additionally, barricading and safety measures must be implemented at construction sites, and all personnel must wear reflective vests.
