Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna University’s affiliated non-government colleges will also hold student union elections on September 27, marking the return of polls after a year’s gap. The announcement has sparked enthusiasm among students, though the short three-day preparation period poses a challenge for college administrations.
Since the start of the academic session, students had been demanding elections. Protests and occasional clashes were reported in four colleges of the city—DAV PG College, DBS PG College, MKP PG College, and SGRR PG College. The confusion over the elections was cleared on Monday by the Directorate, bringing relief to students. On Tuesday, campuses turned vibrant with election fervor as colleges released official schedules while ensuring strict adherence to the Lyngdoh Committee guidelines.
At DAV PG College, Principal Prof. Kaushal Kumar and Chief Election Officer Prof. Shashi Kiran Solanki informed that nomination forms are available from today. The nomination and withdrawal process will conclude on September 25, followed by scrutiny and publication of final candidate lists in the evening. A general assembly of student representatives will take place on September 26, and voting with result declaration is set for September 27.
Similarly, DBS PG College Principal Dr. V.C. Pandey and Chief Election Officer Amit Chauhan stated that both administration and police have been informed to ensure peaceful and fair elections. As per their schedule, admissions closed on September 23, after which nomination sales and verification started. Nominations close on September 24, followed by a general assembly on September 25. Identity cards for candidates will be issued on September 26, and voting with counting will take place on September 27.
At SGRR PG College, 18 nomination forms were sold on Tuesday. Principal Major Pradeep Singh and Chief Election Officer Dr. Sandeep Negi confirmed that nominations and withdrawals will close on September 24, followed by scrutiny and list publication. The general assembly is scheduled for September 25, while voting and results will be declared on September 27.
MKP PG College has also released its election program. Principal Dr. Sarita Kumar and Chief Election Officer Dr. Sangeeta Khullar stated that preparations will be completed within three days, with cooperation from students actively sought.
