Students display Creativity through ‘Best Out of Waste’

School Children’s Congress held at Graphic Era

Dehradun, 28 Oct: School children showcased their creativity by turning waste materials into useful items at Graphic Era Deemed University, here, today. Students from 15 schools across the country presented their innovative ideas through creative models at the School Children’s Congress held in the university.
The event aimed to inspire the younger generation towards building a cleaner and greener future. Over 150 students from Graphic Era Global School, Himalayan School, Nancy International School, Doon Bhawani International, and West Bengal’s Govindpur Ratneshwar High School, among others, crafted items like light lamps, photo frames, purses, and plant pots from plastic bottles—spreading the message of Best Out of Waste. Competitions such as model-making, drawing, and essay writing were also organised for the participants.
In the model-making competition, Arya, Aarav, and Pranjali from Graphic Era Global School; Ayush, Yuvraj, and Tanishk from Himalayan School; and Soumya and Parna from Govindpur Ratneshwar High School secured the first position. In the essay competition, Aradhya and Shyaml Singh from Himalayan School and Saanvi Goyal from TonsBridge School bagged the top spot, while in the drawing competition, Vivaan Ahlawat from Graphic Era Global School, Samriddhi from Kendriya Vidyalaya, and Aastha Agarwal from TonsBridge emerged winners.
The Chief Guest at the conference, Dr Sadhan Kumar Ghosh, Chairman of the International Waste Management, Air and Water Committee, administered an oath to students and teachers to reduce waste, respect resources, and adopt a circular economy. The conference was also addressed by SK Rai, Vice President of the same committee, and Dr Nuajari, lead researcher from Georgian Technical University, Georgia.
The School Children’s Congress was jointly organised by Graphic Era Deemed University and the International Waste Management, Air and Water Committee. It was a significant part of the 15th International Conference on Sustainable Waste Management and Circular Economy and the IPLA Global Forum 2025.
On this occasion, dignitaries present included Dr Narpinder Singh, Vice Chancellor of Graphic Era Deemed University; Dr Amit R Bhatt, Vice Chancellor of Graphic Era Hill University; Rajkumar Trehan, Principal of Graphic Era Global School; and Dr Pratibha Naithani, Head of the Department of Environmental Science at Graphic Era Deemed University. Also in attendance were Dr Bui Thi Thong, founder of VNU GreenTech Spinoff Company, Vietnam; Dr Mitali Ghosh Bakshi, Professor at Marshall University, USA; along with teachers and students. The event was chaired by Dr Suman Naithani and Dr BS Bisht and hosted by Dr Bharti Sharma.
