Pres Murmu awards Gold Medals to students at 2nd Convocation of Patanjali University

Haridwar, 2 Nov: President Draupadi Murmu honoured gold medalists at the Second Convocation of Patanjali University, here, today. A total of 1,454 students were awarded degrees at the event. Sixty-two scholars were awarded the Vidya Varidhi degree, three Vidya Vachaspati degrees, while 615 students received Master’s degrees and 774 were awarded Bachelor’s degrees. On this occasion, Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) presented the President with copies of two books, “Flora of Rashtrapati Bhavan” and “Medicinal Plants of Rashtrapati Bhavan”, based on the diverse flora of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
President Draupadi Murmu congratulated and blessed all the students who received degrees. Praising the medalists, she said that special recognition should also be given to the teachers and parents who contributed to the development of students’ lives. She expressed satisfaction that 64 percent of graduating students this year were girls, and that the number of female students receiving medals was four times higher than that of male students. She said this achievement reflects a developed India in which women are playing a leadership role.

The President said that Patanjali University is making Maharishi Patanjali’s tradition of penance, meditation, and knowledge accessible to modern society. The University is making a significant contribution to building a healthy India through education and research in the fields of Yoga, Ayurveda, and naturopathy. She praised the University’s India-centric educational vision, saying it embodies the spirit of universal brotherhood, the integration of Vedic knowledge and modern scientific perspectives, and the resolution of global challenges. She urged students to embrace life values ​​based on the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

The President added that the purpose of education is not only to acquire knowledge, but also to imbibe life values ​​such as morality, austerity, simplicity, and devotion to duty. She urged students to play an active role not only in self-development but also in nation-building. Highlighting the cultural significance of Haridwar, located on the banks of the Ganga, the President said that this sacred place is a confluence of knowledge and spirituality. She expressed confidence that the students of Patanjali University, by following the ideals of self-study and austerity, will contribute to the creation of a healthy, cultured, and harmonious society.
Governor Lt General Gurmeet Singh (Retd) warmly welcomed and congratulated President Draupadi Murmu, describing her arrival in Devbhoomi as a proud moment. The Governor said that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is not just a state, but a hub of yoga, Ayurveda, and spirituality. The traditions of yoga and Ayurveda prevalent in this sacred land have given the message of health, balance, and harmony not only to India but to the entire world. This Rishi tradition of Uttarakhand even today inspires all that the supreme aim of knowledge is not only self-development but world welfare.

The Governor extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the graduating students and expressed hope that they would successfully meet the challenges that lay ahead after the convocation.

The Governor said the knowledge acquired by our sages and saints was not only for their own benefit, but for the welfare of the entire universe. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, by securing the adoption of International Yoga Day at the United Nations, provided a global platform for thousands of years of work on the science of yoga. In the past few years, yoga and Ayurveda have brought a major revolution in the field of health, and today millions of people are benefiting from them.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed President Draupadi Murmu on behalf of the 1.25 crore people of Uttarakhand. He said that President Draupadi Murmu has always prioritised the welfare of the last person in line and worked for the empowerment of the deprived, exploited, and backward sections of society. Recently, when she flew the Rafale fighter jet, the entire country witnessed an inspiring example of her indomitable courage, patriotism, and determination. Her personality embodies a unique combination of maternal affection, a resolve to serve, and an unwavering dedication to the nation. The Chief Minister said that it is the good fortune of all Uttarakhand residents to have received the President’s presence and guidance on this historic occasion of the state’s 25th anniversary.

The Chief Minister expected the students receiving degrees at the convocation to use their knowledge and skills to play an important role in their own better future, as well as in the happiness and prosperity of their families and the welfare of society. He said that under the guidance of Swami Ramdev, Patanjali University is doing an incomparable work of connecting modern education with Indian values ​​and traditions. Here, a wonderful confluence of science and spirituality is seen, where students acquire not only knowledge but also Indian life values. Patanjali University has developed this education system by coordinating modern science and Indian knowledge tradition, which is working to weave yoga, Ayurveda, science and technology into one thread.

The Chief Minister said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state government is undertaking numerous innovations. Along with implementing the National Education Policy-2020 in the state, initiatives have been taken to offer courses in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data in the state’s universities and research institutes. A Centre for Hindu Studies has also been established at Doon University for in-depth study of Indian culture, philosophy, and history. Scientific research is also being encouraged in the state through the construction of a Science City in Dehradun, an Astro Park in Haldwani, and a Science Centre in Almora.

The program was attended by Patanjali University Chancellor Swami Ramdev, Vice Chancellor Acharya Balkrishna, Members of Parliament Trivendra Singh Rawat, Dr Kalpana Saini and other dignitaries.
