Cabinet to Decide on PPP-Mode Operation of Super Specialty Cancer Hospital in Harrawala

A crucial decision regarding the operation of the newly built Super Specialty Cancer Hospital in Harrawala, Dehradun, is set to be taken in the upcoming Uttarakhand cabinet meeting. The government is considering handing over the hospital’s operations to Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi, under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

Built at a cost of ₹106 crore, the 300-bed state-of-the-art cancer hospital has been completed under the National Health Mission (NHM), with joint funding from the central and state governments. Once operational, the hospital is expected to provide comprehensive cancer care, including diagnosis, consultation, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and advanced surgeries, eliminating the need for patients to travel out of state for treatment.

The foundation stone for the hospital was laid in 2020, and the state government has since resolved to run it through the PPP mode for improved efficiency and patient care. The Health Department has already held discussions with the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute, and a final approval will be sought from the state cabinet.

Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat confirmed the ongoing talks and emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing cancer care in the region.
