Dehradun district administration has prioritized public safety by rapidly activating inactive CCTV cameras under the Smart City project. Led by District Magistrate and Smart City CEO Savin Bansal, 310 cameras have been made operational in the last two and a half months, improving law and order in the city.
Surveillance Expansion in the City
Out of 950 CCTV cameras installed in Dehradun under the Smart City initiative, 375 had remained inactive for a long time. Upon taking charge, the DM reviewed their functionality, imposed penalties on responsible companies, and issued strict instructions. As a result, 310 dormant cameras were reactivated, with the rest given a deadline of April 15 for activation.
Crime Control Enhanced by Cameras
Recently activated 60 cameras, including those at Mussoorie Diversion and Sai Mandir areas, helped police solve a hit-and-run case quickly by providing crucial leads and aiding in the suspect’s swift arrest.
Strict Action Against Service Providers
HP company has faced continuous penalties and warnings of blacklisting.
BSNL was also given strict directives to ensure smooth operations.
Failure to improve within the deadline will invite stringent legal action against these companies.
Integration of Police and Smart Control Room
For the first time, 150 police cameras were integrated with the smart control room.
22 new cameras installed at Palton Bazaar are helping curb lawlessness in the area.
Firm Administrative Stand on Security
District Magistrate Savin Bansal emphasized zero compromise on city safety. Surveillance will remain focused on major intersections, public places, and roads to enhance crime control and traffic management.
