Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Education Department has received a large number of transfer requests from teachers, and most of them want to be posted in Dehradun, Haridwar, or Nainital. However, Education Secretary Ravinath Raman clarified that not everyone can be transferred to Dehradun, as all transfers will follow the rules set in the state’s Education Transfer Act.
The capital issue of Uttarakhand often sparks debates around Gairsain. During the recent Assembly session, some legislators pointed out that most teachers applying for transfers preferred Dehradun over hill districts, despite advocating for Gairsain as the state’s permanent capital.
According to officials, while many teachers sought postings in Dehradun, others requested transfers to Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, and Nainital.
Raman said that as the regular transfer session has ended, transfers on request will now be processed at a higher administrative level. Transfers of lecturers will be approved at the Director General’s level instead of the Director, and LT teachers’ transfers will be done by the Director instead of the Additional Director.
Although mandatory transfers between easy and hard areas are still under consideration in the High Court, the court has allowed transfers based on personal requests. The department will conduct these transfers as per the legal provisions.

In the Basic Education Department, applications for transfers have been invited following proper guidelines. Officials said that while several requests were sent directly to the Directorate and the government, only those meeting the eligibility criteria will now be processed.
