Teachers Protest Direct Recruitment for Principal Posts, Threaten Stir Post Poll Code

The Rajkiya Shikshak Sangh has strongly opposed the state government’s move to fill principal posts through departmental direct recruitment instead of promotions. Following a recent cabinet decision, the teacher’s body met with Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat to express its discontent and warned of an upcoming agitation once the election model code of conduct is lifted.

Provincial President Ram Singh Chauhan and General Secretary Ramesh Panyuli stated that thousands of teachers have been waiting for years for promotions, but instead of promoting eligible candidates, the government is filling promotional posts via direct recruitment. They claimed that such a policy is unjust and demoralizing for long-serving educators.

The teacher representatives pointed out that since the era of undivided Uttar Pradesh, the post of principal has always been a promotional role. Even until 2008, assistant teachers (LT grade) were promoted to the level of District Education Officers. In 2009, academic and administrative cadres were proposed to be separated, with new rules formalized in 2011. However, the recent move, they argued, disregards the rights and expectations of senior teachers.

The Sangh has warned that if 100% of principal and headmaster posts are not filled through promotions, they will launch a fresh agitation after the model code of conduct ends.
