Tourists to Enjoy Himalayan Views and Forest Stays in Scenic Lohaghat

The Forest Department is set to boost eco-tourism in Uttarakhand’s Lohaghat region by developing stay facilities for tourists and setting up cottages at Naliya, a site known for panoramic Himalayan views. The initiative aims to offer visitors an immersive experience of nature, forest stays, and cultural landmarks.

Lohaghat, nestled in the Champawat district, is famous for its natural beauty and deodar forests. Nearby attractions include the Baleshwar Temple, Mayawati Ashram, Hingla Devi Temple, and the Varahi Devi Temple—located just two and a half hours away. The region also boasts the serene Kolidek Lake and the historic Vanasur Fort.

As part of the eco-tourism plan, an old forest nursery and building in Lohaghat has been handed back to the Champawat Forest Division for conversion into accommodation. According to Divisional Forest Officer Naveen Pant, these structures will be strengthened and beautified to host up to 10 families.

Additionally, six cottages are planned at Naliya, a picturesque spot on the Lohaghat–Varahi Devi route that remains cool even during summer. A forest awareness center that had fallen into disrepair is being renovated for tourist use. Further proposals are being sent to forest headquarters for development at other locations.

“The eco-tourism plan for Lohaghat is underway. Facilities for tourists will be developed at the former nursery site, and locations for new cottages have already been identified,” said Prasanna Patro, Chief Conservator of Forests, Eco-Tourism.
