Pithoragarh – A tragic road accident near Pithoragarh’s Gangiolihaat area claimed the lives of two young men who were returning home from Khatima late Thursday night. Their vehicle, just seven kilometres short of their village Pipli Niglati Chahaj, slipped off the road and plunged nearly 300 metres into a deep gorge.

According to locals, driver and vehicle owner Sagar Singh died at the spot due to severe injuries. The second occupant, Pawan Bungla, was rescued by villagers and brought up to the road, after which he was taken to the district hospital in an ambulance. Relatives accompanying him said Pawan was conscious, speaking, and able to recognise people when he reached the hospital around 1 a.m.

He was admitted to the surgical ward around 2 a.m. However, family members allege that his condition deteriorated as he struggled to breathe and that the emergency staff did not respond promptly despite being alerted. They claim medical negligence led to his death at 4:45 a.m. on Friday. The allegations have created tension among relatives, who demand accountability for the delayed response.
